| A Career of Musical Peaks |
|
| After Giuseppe Verdi’s death on January 27, 1901, the outpouring of grief in his native Italy was unprecedented. When his funeral procession passed through the streets of Milan, nearly a quarter of a million people turned out to mourn the man whose music had stirred the emotions of passionate people. Toscanini conducted the “Va, pensiero” chorus from Nabucco, which had become a quasi-Italian national anthem. Italian and European dignitaries attended, as did Puccini, Mascagni and other composers of the younger generation. |

| Giuseppe Verdi |
| Opera’s greatest showman |
| No other operatic composer can claim to have had better success with his works than the enigmatic and brilliant Giuseppe Verdi. His astonishingly varied retinue of works draws on physchological and dramatic plots with a particular penchant for dramatic heroines, although most of them end in blood-curdling tragedy. His 27 operas are acute examples of Italian lyricism at its best although it is only in the later triumvirate that he manages to astound with his inspiration and magnificent music. |

| Gozitan Musician Meets Puccini’s Grand Daughter At Torre Del Lago |
|
| Every opera lover dreams of visiting the mecca of Puccini’s opera – Torre del Lago Puccini which is about 25 km away from the composer’s birthplace, Lucca, in Tuscany. This dream came true for me recently when I also had the opportunity to meet Dr. Simonetta Puccini who is the composer’s grand daughter and president of the Istituto di Studi Pucciniani. |

| The Genesis of Aida |
|
| As Verdi grew older and older, his creative process of composition slowed down considerably. This may be due to various reasons. Some events, which occurred after the première of Don Carlos in 1867, seem to have changed the life of the old man of Busseto. |
