The Classique Foundation is a non-profit
cultural organization whose main aim is to promote culture
by organizing musical concerts from time to time during the
year. The foundation's other mission, while keeping a professional
standard as much as possible, is to encourage and promote
local artists especially those who are at the beginning of
their musical career.
The idea of forming
a foundation to organize musical concerts in Gozo was born
after a vocal and orchestral concert, Celebrity Concert, was
organized at the Gozo Cathedral on April 28, 2000. This concert
was so successful that it was thought it would be ideal to
organize such musical events from time to time during the
calendar year.
The Foundation was
founded in the year 2000 by its present artistic director
Joseph Debrincat. The Foundation was official launched on
May 5, 2001 with a vocal and orchestral concert Verdi in
concerto commemorating the first hundred years from the
great opera master's death. This concert was held in Gozo's
capital, Victoria, at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre.
The Classique Foundation
is funded annually by local institutions who contribute in
no small measure towards the realization of such musical concerts.
